Councillors Vote Unanimously on Fate of Norwood Pool

And it’s probably not the direction you wanted it to go.

Councillors voted unanimously Wednesday to close the nearly 60-year-old facility.  The Norwood Pool will be one city facility not opening this summer.

A report by the city’s public service determined there were too many issues with the pool to make it worthwhile to keep it open.

In September, council’s community services and parks committee voted to delay action on the pool, which was previously slated to close due to its age and damage.

Statement from Coun. Janice Lukes (Waverley West):

“These recreation facilities are very old.  I think the city’s got over 60 community centre facilities, and some of them are beyond repair.  It’s pointless to keep putting good money into old.”
