Season 3 of Better Call Saul has just begun on AMC and fans of the series are waiting with bated breath for one thing, and one thing only: the return of Giancarlo Esposito, who played the intense Gus Fring in Breaking Bad.
The actor is set to return in the episode entitled “Witness,” but recent news indicates the manager of Los Pollos Hermanos will also appear in several subsequent episodes, and even in future seasons.
So that makes for double good news, because the announcement means Better Call Saul is going to stick around for awhile. Vince Gilligan and the screenwriting team will continue digging into the mysterious past of Gus Fring, a few years before he meets Walter White and Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad.
Giancarlo Esposito, who also made an appearance in Part 2 of The Get Down, spoke with Entertainment Weekly and announced that his character would be involved in seasons 4 and 5 if they are ordered by AMC.
The actor also thinks it would be amazing if Vince Gilligan wrote a second Breaking Bad spin-off. The spin-off would be called The Rise of Gus and would concentrate on the evolution of Gus Fring as a drug kingpin and restaurant owner. As Esposito explained:
“I keep talking about it because maybe it’s a reality, although I feel like if we explore all the places of Gus in Saul that I’m satisfied with, there may be no need for The Rise of Gus.”
Well, in that case, we wouldn’t be against watching The Rise of Jesse after Better Call Saul, instead.
