Heads up – they’re MUCH tougher than before.
Here’s what you need to know if you’re caught using a hand-held electronic device behind the wheel:
- three day licence suspension
- $672 fine (up from a $203 fine)
- five demerits
- $50 licence reinstatement fee
If you are caught again within 10 years of the first offence the penalties are similar but with a seven day licence suspension instead of three.
So put the phone down and here’s another note; even if you’re phone is mounted on your dash board you can only touch it ONCE to begin, accept or end a call. More than once will result in a ticket.
