Selena Gomez Is Working on a Documentary Highlighting Her Battle With Lupus

After months of health battles, Selena Gomez is ready to tell her side of the story. The 25-year-old star revealed to fans last month that she had undergone a kidney transplant due to her Lupus. Her good friend Francia Raisa donated one of her kidneys and they both were thankfully able to have a full recovery. And now, sources exclusively tell In Touch that she is ready to tell her story in a new documentary about her health.

“She’s making a documentary about her health issues,” a source exclusively says. “Selena will talk about her journey, give viewers insight into lupus and clear up any misunderstandings.”

Selena mostly hopes that her film will be able to inspire others. Many people are battling Lupus (or other diseases) so she wants to shed light on that struggle. “Since having the transplant, Selena’s a changed woman and appreciates how lucky she is,” adds the source. “The whole experience has been life-changing.”

We’re so happy to hear that Selena is doing better now and is back to work. But, sources exclusively revealed previously that this experience was extremely trying on the singer. “In the months after she got back from rehab, she was complaining a lot about being sick all of the time, feeling sluggish and gaining weight,” an insider revealed. “When she found out that she needed a transplant, she panicked. It has taken all her strength to get through this.”

And her fight, unfortunately, might not be over yet. “Other organs, like the lungs, can become involved,” Dr. Robert Fafalak noted. “Your lifespan when you have something like this could potentially be shortened.” He added that just because her transplant is working now doesn’t promise it will last in her body. And now more than ever she needs to do away with her partying lifestyle. “I would say ‘no, no, no’ to everything like that. Not even for a period of time. Forever.” We’re rooting for you, Selena!
