Winnipeg was not the Arlington Bridge’s original home. Built in 1909 by the Cleveland Ironworks Company in Birmingham, England, the bridge was originally supposed to cross the Nile River in Egypt but the bridge was built too short. In true Winnipeg fashion, the city purchased the bridge at a discounted price.
