The holidays are around the corner, which is a friendly reminder to donate to our good friends at Winnipeg Harvest!
Winnipeg Harvest is sure to check every item that is donated before serving the product to the public. Volunteers work hard to check for foods that are damage or leak, plus they check the expiry date!
Something important to note is that the volunteers know when food is still good to consume. So if something simply dented or past its best before date it’s actually still good to eat!
“If it’s still sealed, nobody opened it, you can still eat it after the best before date because it’s going to be safe,” said food scientist Claudia Narvaez.
Winnipeg Harvest is sure to follow Health Canada regulations on the shelf life of items. Canned goods or pastas are safe to eat indefinitely, as they are stored properly!
If you're looking for a chance to support your local food banks, Winnipeg Harvest is in need of canned protein like peanut butter, canned beans or chili, and canned meat or fish. Head to your local grocer and donate today to fight hunger and feed hope! pic.twitter.com/xtJl70doMs
