West Kildonan Collegiate students Victor Selby, Tatiana Schwenzer, Christina Tran and Destiny Boushie are spearheading a movement to ban single-use plastic bags in the City Of Winnipeg.
They began an online petition on March 15th and have already reached close to 1,200 signatures.
The plastic bags do not decompose in the landfills, but rather just break down into small pieces and enter our water and consumed by animals.
This movement was spawned by Montreal, who have already adopted the plastic bag ban as of January 1, 2018. Thompson, The Pas, Leaf Rapids and Snow Lake have already beat Winnipeg to the punch.
