The move was met with instant scrutiny.
After 35 years of Roll Up The Rim….the rules are changing a little bit.
Longer odds, a shorter contest, fewer prizes and only two weeks of in-store cups.
That’s what Canadians can expect from Tim Hortons’ new “sustainable” Roll Up the Rim rules.https://t.co/nHyvdYfHyZ— Globalnews.ca (@globalnews) February 19, 2020
This year…Roll Up cups will only be handed out for the first two weeks of the contest.
After that…players will have to accumulate “digital rolls” through the Tim’s app.
Some didn’t take the news very well:
I really don't like Tim Hortons digital revamp for #RollUpTheRim It's not going "green" if you're still providing paper cups. It's just wasting everyones time & forcing people to download the app.

Others…didn’t seem to mind the change:
Oh damn, is it #RollUpTheRim to win time at Tim Hortons again? That's how we Canadians tell what part of the year it is.

Either way, Timmies has been under fire recent years for the amount of waste it’s cups leave behind during Roll Up.
In return, the company plans on handing out roughly 2-Million reusable cups to coincide with the contest.
