WE NEED TO KNOW…but a surprise like this, would also be pretty cool!
From Screenrant:
Ghostbusters: Afterlife star Ernie Hudson won’t confirm or deny the movie contains a cameo from Rick Moranis. Acting as a proper sequel to the original films from the 1980s, Ghostbusters: Afterlife will center on a new generation of ghost hunters after two kids (McKenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard) discover their family’s ties to the original group. Fans of the classic supernatural comedy were delighted by the news that the franchise would return to its roots following the 2016 all-female reboot. Unfortunately, they’ve been waiting a while to see it, as Ghostbusters: Afterlife has been delayed multiple times due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Nevertheless, there are a lot of reasons to be excited about Ghostbusters: Afterlife, particularly because most of the original stars from the first two films will be back. In addition to Hudson, Ghostbusters: Afterlife will feature the returns of Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Annie Potts, and Sigourney Weaver. Murray confirmed the film will find a way to remember Harold Ramis, who passed away in 2014, and Rick Moranis, who is still alive but has largely stepped away from acting in the years since 1997.
All signs have pointed to Moranis not appearing in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, but new comments from Hudson casts some doubt on that. In a new interview with Living Life Fearless, Hudson was asked if Moranis will appear in the new film. Hudson’s answer, while not definitively saying anything one way or the other, is quite interesting. “I think the studios probably want to hold that one,” Hudson said. “I love Rick. But yeah, I’ll let them share that.”
A Moranis cameo in Ghostbusters: Afterlife would be quite the pleasant surprise for fans, and it would definitely be the kind of thing Sony would like to keep a secret beforehand. Though Moranis will return to Honey, I Shrunk the Kids for a Disney+ reboot, he hasn’t starred in a live-action production for years now. Ghostbusters: Afterlife would be the perfect place for him to pop up, and it would surely be one of the biggest talking points from the film.
